Chapter 12- Cry of the Hunters

Dear Diary,
The boys have gone crazy. Literally crazy. I had to hide from the psycho boys in a hole in the ground. Roger spotted me and I sprinted for my life. No Joke, with him and all the other boys chasing after me. It's hard to realize that yesterday we were living on an island and now we are all headed home. I don't think that anyone will ever be the same. Some naval officer saw us as our island was bursting into flames. Let me explain what happened.
Jack and Roger found me hiding in the thicket by castle rock and they thought that they could smoke me out. They set the thicket that I was hiding in on fire. I sprinted out and headed towards Simon's hiding spot. I found a hole in the ground and I was hiding from Roger. He had sharpened a stick at both ends and was planning to make me a Lord of the Ralph. He was going to kill me and then stick my head on one end of the stick. Such a great vision, I know!!
Sam and Eric were converted to Jack's tribe. At first, I thought it was by force but then I realized that it was by choice. They wanted to be members of Jacks tribe and when Jack captured them, they took this as an opportunity. Although Eric seems to be siding with me more, Sam is completely brainwashed by Jack and the hunters. Eric shared meat with me from the feast that Jack's tribe had, which was nice.
The rescue was actually quite nice. The naval officer that found us was surprised when I told him that Simon and Piggy died. He thought that it was a game and was shocked when I told him that it wasn't. I was the one that told the officer I was the leader, I was the one that watched this island turn into an island fill with savages and let it happen. It was all my fault and I still feel the heat of the fire on my skin. When Jack's tribe finally came running onto the beach, they too saw the naval officer. Percival, who gave us a five minute speech about his name and where he lived when we first got here, couldn't remember his name. It was pretty sad!
I'm so glad that we finally got rescued. I hope but doubt that we will ever be the way we were when we crashed on this island. Lives were lost, and society disappeared, but we held it together. Life became one big chase and I'm so glad its over.
