Chapter 3- Huts on the Beach

Perspective: Piggy

Dear Diary,

Today, Simon and Ralph tried building shelter for us. The shelter is not only for the littleuns but for all of us. Another reason for the shelter is because of the beastie. The boy with the mulberry birthmark claimed that he saw it and it was like a huge snake. What I think is a coincidence is that the boy that claimed he saw beastie, got burned in the fire.

In order to stay on this island, we all have to respect the rules and each other. Since no one on the island listens to me, this is going to be very hard. Ralph is a good leader but he needs to learn to listen. Even though I found the conch and my specs were used no one listens to me or even respects me in that case.

Simon is a very interesting guy with a mysterious personality. He is very spiritual and is pretty smart. He understands what needs to be done in order to survive. He is kind of quiet and keeps to himself. He faints all the time though. What's up with that?

Ralph told everyone my name is Piggy. I told him not to tell and then he went and told all the boys. They all started laughing at me and I felt horrible. I can't believe that Ralph would do that. I know that I need to trust him because we are on an island but after he told everyone, I don't know if I should. The other boys seem really nice but they all have such different personalities. You've got Jack who is always trying to overpower Ralph, Simon who is either fainting or helping with something, Ralph the leader who is always telling someone what to do, then you have Roger who seems like he's always trying to kill someone, and the littleuns who will do anything as long as you bribe them.

This island is very pretty but I don't know how long we will be able to live her. With the fire burning down part of the island, I have some worries. There are so many of us and only a certain supply of everything that we need. I wonder though who is going to be the next person that will move on.
